Riverside Road Fremantle

Project Overview

When faced with the challenge of stabilizing a cliffside in a hard-to-reach residential area, Fortec stepped up to the task. With access limited and time-sensitive work conditions, our team had to devise a bold and innovative solution to replace aging steel cable anchors while maintaining the flow of traffic on the bustling Stirling Highway.

The project demanded the placement of a drill rig on the footpath of Stirling Highway, which had to be executed without disrupting the passage of oversized mining machinery traveling to and from Fremantle Port. Furthermore, the only access to the work area was from the air, requiring specialized equipment and a carefully planned approach.

To overcome these access challenges, we employed a crane to lower a boom lift into the rear yard of the property. We chose the Comacchio MC-9 drill rig for its ability to drill out over the edge and under itself, making it the ideal choice for this restricted workspace. The MC-9 rig was utilized to drill permanent soil nails into the mixed limestone, effectively stabilizing the cliff.
