Kununurra Diversion Dam

Project Overview

Fortec was engaged by the Water Corporation to install new lifting points to the Kununurra Diversion Dam removable deck beams.

A total of 22 beams were refurbished over a period of 13 weeks.

The installation consisted of core drilling 4 holes (2 on each side) of each lifting beam, installing lifting sling from the water by watercraft, strengthen the lifting points by installing a steel cradle on each end of each beam and locally patching of all beams.

Scope of works

  • Traffic management to safely control a single lane closure of the main highway
  • Client’s assistance with gantry operations
  • Sub-contractors assistance with transportation of the beams to and from the yard
  • 60T crane to safely lift beams from the truck onto resting blocks in the Fortec yard
  • The installation consisted of core drilling 4 holes, 2 on each side of each lifting beam, installing a lifting sling from the water by watercraft, strengthening the lifting points by installing a steel cradle on each end of each beam and locally patching all of the beams

  • A total of 22 beams were refurbished over a period of 13 weeks
