Cooranbong Bridge

Project Overview

Fortec was engaged by LMCC to strengthen, and undertake upgrade works for the Cooranbong Bridge crossing over Dora Creek.

This bridge provides a critical freight link within south-western growth area of Lake Macquarie.

The bridge is a two-way, steel and concrete composite bridge constructed in the 1960s utilising existing concrete foundations originally constructed in the 1900s.

Scope of Works

  • Removal of lead paint and welding strengthening plates to the underside of existing girders
  • Crack Injection
  • Installation of CFRP laminates to concrete soffit
  • Concrete Repairs
  • Installation of carbon fibre rods to the top of the bridge deck
  • Bridge jacking to enable repair and replacement of the failing girder flanges & steel bearings
  • Installation of new transverse steel bracing
  • Installation of new traffic barriers

  • Alternative CFRP Laminate product which reduced the overall all quantity of laminates required compared to tender design
